Yeast Infection

Yeast Infection

The existing fungi in your skin cause yeast infection. Areas which is moist, is the right place for the fungi to grow. The higher the moisture level the greater the expected growth. Any change in site of the fungal growth can cause a yeast infection. Though our skin is ready and geared to tackle any fungal complications, any break in the skin can however cause organisms to enter.
Interestingly only adult women get yeast infection but never a child. Children get oral thrush but never in any other part of the body. Parents have surely heard of such misconceptions sometime during the growing years of their child. Unfortunately children, like anyone else, may be affected by Candida infection, which may not be limited to the oral area. For such infections to occur and spread, all that is needed is a warm and damp environment.
Reasons for Yeast Infection:

Since Candida thrives in wet and warm places, a child’s diaper is the best place, as the child is just learning to develop toilet habits. The cute folds and the areas which are usually covered by diapers are the ideal places where Candida can breed. In appearance it is somewhat similar to thrush with the same white lumpy looks and smelling somewhat like bread that’s baking in the oven. As a preventive step against yeast infections, keep the baby dry and clean all the time, especially during the warm and humid summer months.
Why does yeast infection affect only women? Well, because their genital area has more folds for the Candida to thrive. Since boy babies also wear diapers which keep them warm and moist, it can affect them too. Think about it: the same environment which causes diaper rash would also result in Candida overgrowth. So you ought to take the same preventive measures you take for you baby girl for your baby boy too.
Early signs of yeast infection:

It all depends on the area of infection and the symptoms would vary accordingly. In the case of a vaginal infection, the symptoms include a burning sensation accompanied by thick and white or thin and watery discharge. What are the symptoms when the infected area is the mouth? You could see some thick white patches on top of swollen red skin in the mouth. Though it may not itch as it does with other outer skin infections, but the area becomes very sensitive and may even bleed with the removal of the white part. Because this causes pain during eating and drinking, ensure the child is well hydrated.
Parents should watch out for reasons for yeast infections. While an infection need not be dangerous or fatal it but may result in complications if left unattended. Some of the most common symptoms are mentioned above but if you are unsure speak to your physician.
